Texas Farmers Spent Less on Farming in 2016

The USDA says Texas farmers cut back on expenses in 2016.

Texas farmers paid less to operate their farms last year, according to a new report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The report shows that Texas farm production expenses were almost $24 billion in 2016. That sounds like a lot, but that’s actually about $230 million less than the year before.

Less money spent on livestock and poultry related expenses was the largest single factor in the drop. Texas farmers spent $50 million fewer dollars on those expenses in 2016.
