Republican John Ratcliffe will retain his office in U.S. House of Representatives District 4. Ratcliffe defeated Democrat challenger Catherine Krantz, a Democrat and Ken Ashby, a Libertarian.

Ratcliffe received 75.7 percent of votes cast (188,003). Krantz earned about 23 percent of votes (57,209), while Ashby rounded out the results with 3,161 votes (1.3 percent). Ratcliffe will be starting his third term as a member of the House.

Ratcliffe, an attorney, emphasized border security and cybersecurity as his main points during the campaign.

Ratcliffe is rumored to be in consideration to succeed U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions, should Sessions resign or be dismissed by President Donald Trump. Ratcliffe has not commented publicly on the matter.
