Voters in the Greenville Independent School District have approved a controversial tax-revenue overhaul presented to voters by the district’s board of trustees.
The Greenville Herald-Banner reports that about 52 percent of voters cast ballots in favor of the measure. Unofficial final numbers showed 4,152 voting for swap-and-drop and 3,776 voting against, the Herald-Banner said.
The measure’s approval means that property tax rates in the district will drop by one cent, to slightly less than $1.30 per $100 of property valuation.
Greenville ISD administrators have said that change will result in the state funding Greenville ISD with about $1.5 million more in annual revenue. Administrators have said that the anticipated windfall will be allocated to faculty and staff salaries and wages.
