  • Officials have released details about a one-car rollover accident that left a Greenville man dead last weekend. Texas Department of Public Safety officers say they responded Saturday morning around 11 o’clock to a call of a major accident on State Highway 34, about a quarter mile south of Greenville. Officers found a Cadillac SUV that had left the highway and rolled. The driver, 78-year-old Raymond Ballard of Greenville, was pronounced dead at the scene.
  • Hunt County sheriff’s deputies working with the SPCA of Texas raided a property yesterday morning and seized more than 80 animals in various states of sickness or neglect. Investigators tipped off about possible violations obtained a warrant and raided a residential property in the 3200 block of County Road 4301, just north of Greenville. Once there, they found 73 dogs, 11 cats and 3 dead puppies. Conditions were filthy and tests found the air inside the house had toxic levels of ammonia. The animals were taken and are in the care of the SPCA of Texas pending a custody hearing this Friday in Greenville. Officials say they expect to press criminal charges in the case.
