Bicyclist on NE Texas Trail dies of natural causes, officials say

The man was found on the trail near Merit by a friend who had gone looking for him.

  • A bicyclist was found dead on the Northeast Texas Trail yesterday. The Hunt County Sheriff’s Office office says another cyclist went looking for the man after he had gone missing. The cyclist found his friend unresponsive and called 911. First responders confirmed that the man had died. Officials say the cyclist appears to have died of natural causes and no foul play is suspected. No identifying information about the man was released. The incident happened on the trail between Farmersville and Merit.
  • With thunderstorms likely across the region Friday night, some high schools have changed this week’s varsity football games to tonight. The Paris News reports the Paris Wildcats football game has been changed from Friday to Thursday. Chisum, Rivercrest, Clarksville and Honey Grove will also be playing tonight. In Commerce, the Commerce High School Tigers game remains scheduled for Friday at 7:30. Tomorrow night’s game against Mineola has playoff implications for both teams. The winner of the Commerce-Mineola game will qualify for the last remaining District 5-3A playoff spot. The loser of the game will miss the playoffs.
