2012 rainfall off to a good start

GREENVILLE - Figures put Hunt County in decent shape as far as precipitation goes compared to a year ago.

Area lakes received some much-needed assistance after nearly five inches of rain fell locally. The rain this month comes after the driest year ever recorded in Texas.

Majors Field Municipal Airport in Greenville reports receiving nearly 4.87 inches of rain, compared to the 89 hundredths of an inch received in January 2011. Over the 30 years that the site has been monitoring rain accumulation, an average of 2.75 inches have fallen during the first month of the year.
