Texas students have about a month left before classes begin again across the Lone Star State.

With the school year approaching, there's help for Commerce families looking to get their children prepared for the upcoming semester.

The Back to School Bash is an event aimed at giving both students and parents the tools they need to be ready for school, including health screenings, immunization clinics, school supply assistance, and more. The Bash is scheduled for July 31st from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Commerce High School. Anyone wanting to volunteer, set up a booth or get more information should call Alison Walker at 903-366-0642.

Stuff the Bus is the annual school supply drive for Commerce families in need. The event takes donations of school supplies as well as monetary donations to buy supplies for distribution. Families can fill out applications for assistance, and all applicants receive supplies. There are several drop-off locations around town which will be accepting donations until about August 9. Supplies that are most needed include crayons, markers, bottled school glue, notebook paper, spiral or composition notebooks, highlighters, scissors, pencils, and pencil bags. Donations can be dropped off at:

— Commerce Elementary School: 2900 FM 3218.

— Commerce Police Department: 1103 Sycamore Street.

— Two-Eleven Boutique: 1213 Alamo Street, Suite A.

— Cricket Wireless: 1603 Live Oak Street.

— First United Methodist Church of Commerce: 1709 Highway 24.
