Fire Destroys Home of Former Delta County Sheriff’s Candidate

COOPER - The travel trailer home of Gene Burns caught fire Wednesday along FM 64 in Cooper, bringing county fire department crews to fight the blaze.

No one was injured as neither Burns nor his wife was at home at the time of the blaze, which occurred at approximately 12:15 p.m.

Cooper and Klondike Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the call along with other emergency personnel.

No word on how the fire may have started.

Burns, along with G.R. Woods, were defeated in the May 29 Republican Party Primary Election  by Ricky Smith, who with the victory claimed the Delta County Sheriff's seat, as he is unopposed in November.
