Life has taken many twists and turns for Gainseville's Tom McElvain, and he's used all those life experiences to craft the songs on his powerful new record.

As a songwriter, McElvain has written for artists like Cody Jinks and made a name forself as an excellent composer. Ray Wylie Hubbard saw promise in McElvain and mentored him, but when it came to making his own album, he needed the stars to align just right. Working with producer and music collaborator Joe Austin, McElvain recorded a series of songs about life's highs and lows on the album Redemption. McElvain spoke with KETR's Matt Meinke about the new record and much more.

More about the artist can be found at committedrecords.com.

Listen to Notably Texan weekdays from 11am-2pm on KETR.

Born in Dallas, Texas, Matt moved to the Sulphur Springs area in 1990 and settled in Commerce shortly thereafter. Having dreamed of working in radio since childhood, he began working at KETR while taking Radio-Television courses at Texas A&M University-Commerce in 1993. Matt has transitioned from a part-time worker and pupil of KETR, to the station’s Chief Announcer/Producer and supervisor of student broadcasters. A familiar voice of 88-9 KETR, Matt has hosted such shows as The Late Nite Lion, and can currently be heard as host of Notably Texan.
