Commerce Mayor Teddy Reel says the among the goals of a series of meetings on the future of the city's downtown that started this week is the creation of an iconic feature, for example a water display of some kind.

The engineering, architectural and consulting firm Freese and Nichols of Commerce is assisting the city in the development of plans, which for now include a new farmers market pavilion and covered stage, in addition to a water feature. The mayor says a second meeting will probably be scheduled in September.
