After retiring from the Herald-Banner, Geyer worked in public relations for Hunt Regional Healthcare.
- Rural Texas could see improved funding for broadband service as a result of the infrastructure bill that passed the U.S. House of Representatives late Friday. The bill includes about $100 million for broadband internet access. According to federal statistics, 14 percent of Texas households don’t have an internet subscription. Many of those households are in mostly rural regions like Northeast Texas. Overall, the bill would bring about $30 billion or more of infrastructure spending to Texas, with much of that allocated to transportation infrastructure.
- None of the Texas Republicans in Congress voted for the bill, although some other Republicans did vote for the measure. In a statement, Fort Worth Republican Kay Granger said part of why she voted “no” on infrastructure is because Democrats are also pushing a different bill to fund child care and curb climate change. All of Texas’ Democrats in Congress voted for the infrastructure bill, which now awaits President Biden’s signature.
