Moghaddam, Mueller sweep LSC field athlete of the week awards

Senior Moghaddam in hammer throwing broke the school record with 204-8 (62.38m), freshmen Muller in discus throwing 144-3(43.96m). Both won their respective events at the Tarleton State Invitational.

Texas A&M University-Commerce Track & Field received conference-wide recognition for their first outdoor meet of the season, as the Lions swept both men's and women's Lone Star Conference Field Athletes of the Week with the awards going to Masoud Moghaddam and Rebecca Mueller.

Despite having the NCAA Indoor Championships to train for, Moghaddam nevertheless participated in the Tarleton State Invitational to test his hand at the hammer throw. When the dust settled, the native of Iran had absolutely dominated the event, his winning toss of 204-8 (62.38m) beating the second place finisher by over ten meters. Not only did his throw secure him a provisional qualifying mark which currently sits atop the Division II standings, he broke the A&M-Commerce school record, which had stood for 12 years before toppling on Friday.

Mueller kicked off the outdoor season at the Tarleton State Invitational with an excellent showing in the throws. The native of Germany logged top five finishes in both the shot put (fifth) and javelin throw (fourth) with distances of 36-9 (11.20m) and 95-7 (29.13m) respectively. However, the freshman really turned heads with her performance in the discus throw, winning the event with a toss of 144-3 (43.96m), which currently sits atop Division II's overall standings.

Moghaddam and a select-few other Lions now head to Birmingham, Alabama to take part in the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships at the Birmingham Crossplex.

Meanwhile, the rest of the squad will look to maintain their sedulousness achieved in Stephenville, for they will next head to San Angelo, Texas to compete in the ASU Spring Break Multi-Event. That meet will begin Wednesday, March 18.
