Guilty plea entered in case that inspired safe driving program

PARIS - The driver of a vehicle that wrecked and killed two Northeast Texans in summer 2011 has pleaded guilty to intoxication manslaughter.

20-year-old Keefer Winn lost control of the vehicle, which rolled and ejected all passengers, killing 20-year-old Wade Witmer of Clarksville old and Dylan Ballard of Paris. Two others survived the crash. DPS determined speed and alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Father and co-founder of Dylan’s Drivers Ronnie Ballard in an interview earlier this month on KETR said, “We’re trying to help the community here in Paris; Lamar County. It’s just some way we can give back to our community and know that we are doing something in honor of Dylan.”

The program has been in operation since January, providing free rides each Thursday, Friday and Saturday night.

A judge on Tuesday said sentencing for Keefer Winn will take place at a later date in a Rockwall courtroom.
