Michael Walker remembered in Commerce

By Kevin Jefferies

Commerce – Our Friend. Our Coworker. These were the words on flowers displayed graveside at a memorial service held for Michael Pee Wee Walker in Commerce yesterday. The day marked the one year anniversary of Walker's death, when he was gunned down while performing duties for the City of Commerce. City Manager Bill Shipp spoke of the impact Walker's death had.

SHIPP:It's incredible, the impact of this death; and the outpouring of kindness and remembrance that was received from all over the United States.

According to the Code Enforcement Association of Texas, Walker is the only code officer to have ever been killed in the line of duty in Texas.
