Early TAKS results for Commerce schools

By Bill Oliver

Commerce, TX –

Preliminary TAKS results, with more tests yet to be given and those numbers added to district wide totals, shows Commerce students have scored higher than the state average on 18 of the 27 tests given to third through 11th graders.

Commerce 8th and 11th graders were above state averages in all four test areas. Over 90% of those students passed reading and social studies and over 80% passed in math and science. CISD Curriculum Director Danna Myers projected the district will receive an academically acceptable standard. That means at least 65% of students passed all the tests they took. That's a 5% increase over last year.

Myers said it's possible Commerce Middle School and the elementary buildings may achieve academically recognized ratings, meaning 75% of students passed all their tests...again, 5% more than last year. At Commerce High, Myers said it was too close to call.

The state will issue its ratings later this summer.
