A&M-Commerce to hold tuition hearings

By Scott Harvey

Commerce – Officials at Texas A&M University-Commerce have scheduled three public hearings to address a proposed increase in designated tuition for the 2011 academic year.

The range of increase being considered is $0 to $3.71 per semester credit hour. The actual increase will be dependent upon approval from the A&M System Board of Regents at its May meeting.

Designated tuition is a general use fee authorized by the Texas Education Code that universities use as part of a student's total tuition costs. Texas A&M University-Commerce's present designated tuition is $94 per semester credit hour, which ranks below the average of the designated tuition rates of the 37 public universities in Texas.

A&M-Commerce is not alone in seeking an increase in designated tuition; most state universities are looking at similar proposals.

All interested are welcome to attend.

Hearing dates and times are as follows:

- Tuesday, February 2, 2:00 p.m. Pride Room of the Sam Rayburn Student Center.
- Wednesday, February 3, 9:00 a.m. Traditions Room of Sam Rayburn Student Center.
- Wednesday, February 3, 6:15 p.m. Metroplex Center in Mesquite.
