Commerce – After a successful fall class, the spring class of Healthy Kids from A to Z will begin January 19 at 10:00 AM at the Northeast Texas Children's Museum. Classes will continue through the spring, and the last class will be March 9, 2011.
Patti Peron, one of the class leaders commented about the fall classes, "The children were absolutely delightful. I think we made some progress in preparing them to live a healthy lifestyle."
Whitney Ferguson, another class leader, added "It was a lively bunch, but I think they really enjoyed the stories and activities we had."
The spring class will begin with the letter "J" and end with the letter "Q". A physical activity and a learning activity will be introduced around the letter for the week. For example, the letter "J" will include junk food and jumping. The children will then follow up with the letter "K" that will include Kids in the Kitchen and kicking activities. After this, the letter "L" will include laughter and leaping.
Sponsors of Healthy Kids from A to Z include the Hunt Regional Healthcare and the Texas A&M University-Commerce Department of Campus Recreation.
"The generosity of Hunt Regional Healthcare and the Texas A&M University-Commerce Department of Campus Recreation allow the Museum to keep prices affordable for everyone," stated Sharline Freeman, the Museum's executive director. "Depending on a family's circumstances, we can even offer a scholarship if our prices are still too high. Our aim is to include as many children as we can."
Because of the hands-on approach to the class, the enrollment is limited. For Museum Members and one child, the fee is $10 for the eight classes. For non-members with one child, the fee is $15. For both members and non-members, the second child is $5 for the eight classes. For additional information, call the Northeast Texas Children's Museum at (903) 886-6055. Registration should be completed by January 17.
