Red River County tornado classified as EF1

By Scott Harvey

Clarksville – A damage survey finds Tuesday afternoon's twister that hit Northeast Texas damaged about 20 homes in the Clarksville area.

Officials with the National Weather Service office in Shreveport are classifying the tornado as an EF1, which produced winds of 80-90 mph along an 11 mile long, 225 yard wide path.

There were numerous reports of downed trees and power lines, and a large truck overturned and even a FEMA trailer destroyed. No injuries were reported.

Tuesday's storms originated in North Texas and preceded east through Fannin and Lamar counties before doing the worst damage in Red River County.

A believed tornado near Brookston, about ten miles west of Paris, lifted a barn about 20 feet before smashing it and tossed a firefighter into a ditch without injuring him.
