College Corner Cafe: "Today is our last"

According to a facebook post from the Commerce burger joint, today is their last day of service, and doors are closing indefinitely.

Officials with the College Corner Cafe have not been reached for comment, but a source close to the situation shares that a major investor in the restaurant had recently been considering an exit.

Update at 2:30 p.m. via CCC facebook, "We are now closed and doors locked I am sorry this happened and as stated above it was the investors choice to no longer participate so unfortunately we have many unemployed people now who loved this place with all their hearts and souls."

The restaurant and bar, located adjacent to campus at the corner Lee and Mayo Streets, has only been in operation since their soft open on December 31st, 2011, which had been delayed from a promoted opening for the fall semester of 2011, which would have been in August of last year.

In addition to gourmet burgers, huge onion rings, and a full-service bar, the live-music-friendly venue also provided employment for a number of A&M-Commerce students and Commerce community members.

The business also recently hosted the continuation of the Commerce Songwriter's Showcase, hosted by Grammy-award-winning songwriter, Brad Davis. The previously monthly event had been hosted at Cowhill Express Coffee Company in downtown Commerce until it closed in the Fall of 2011.

The doors are reportedly set to close after only five months of operation.

This is a developing story, and will be updated as more information is made available. Readers are encouraged to share comments on this situation below.
