Campus Police: On Second Thought, It IS a Marijuana Plant

The A&M-Commerce police department, after running tests, has determined that the plant extracted from a decorative planter on campus Thursday is, in fact, marijuana.

Thursday night, this video surfaced on YouTube of a campus officer performing a horticultural seizure on a conspicuous-looking plant in a 35-gallon flower pot adjacent to the roadway on Neal Street near the Field House.

Friday afternoon, Lt. Jason Bone called KETR news director Scott Harvey to explain that multiple tests have confirmed that the plant is actually cannabis.

According to Bone, there are no suspects and the likelihood of finding one is slim. In addition, he does not suspect this was the result of a prank.

"We don't believe this was a planned cultivation effort. We've checked the other planters for any similar plants in various stages of growth, and found nothing of the sort. This isolated incident was likely the result of dropped evidence in a possible chase, or something similar."

We'll share more information as it becomes available.
