Local Newsman Says Goodbye

Scott Harvey has been the voice of local news on 88.9 since November of 2007. We must now bid a fond farewell to the hardworking journalist, editor, and host who's become a fixture here in Northeast Texas.

On October 10th, Harvey informed the station and the University community that he'd accepted the position of News Director at KSMU in Springfield, MO. An excerpt from an internal correspondence follows:

It has been a pleasure working with such a friendly staff and emerging source for news and entertainment. Without a doubt, the skills generated in Commerce these past five years have helped prepare me for this next chapter. It’s a credit to [Jerrod Knight], Kevin, Matt, Deborah and all our [reporters,] part-time helpers and student interns over the years that has made this experience so enjoyable. I’m excited for the future of public radio in Northeast Texas. Thanks for the opportunity and the many memories.

In addition to his role as anchor for local newscasts throughout the day, Scott also wholly produced and hosted The Lead, the exclusive news magazine of Northeast Texas, which brought radio feature storytelling back to 88.9 and led to some awards from the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters over the years. There are a number of station awards for newscasting on the walls with his name on them. Prior to the reintroduction of Morning Edition on KETR, Scott was also co-host of The Morning Blend and other previous iterations of the 88.9 morning programming.

He also organized and hosted a number of popular Candidates' Forums held in the community. In 2012, he was honored by the Commerce ISD School Board for his efforts as a media personality sharing stories of our area youth.

We wish Scott the very best of fortunes, and look forward to his future success in the world of public radio news.
