Alba-Golden High School seems stuck in the middle of District 8-2A Division 2.
The Panthers are a notch or two above Paris Chisum and Como-Pickton, but don’t seem to have the personnel to contend for the district title.
That could change if the offensive line makes room for sophomore running back Dalton Wright (6-1, 220) and junior Running Back Edward Salinas (5-6, 200). Offensive lineman Austin Kennedy (6-5, 265) is more than capable of clearing a path, but his linemates will need to raise their level of play to approach that of Kennedy.
Alba-Golden entered August with the quarterback situation unclear, a major concern. If the Panthers can develop a passing attack to keep defenses honest, that would be a big help for Wright and Salinas.
On the defensive front, roles seem a bit more defined, with interior lineman Gus Peacock expected to lead the pass rush. Add to that a solid linebacker corps that includes Wright, Brett Chrapowicki, Josh Palaschak and Ryan Ellis. In the secondary, depth and speed could be a challenge for the Eagles.
