MALES Summit scheduled for April 9, 2021.
The upcoming MALES Summit co-hosted by Texas A&M University-Commerce and Dallas College aims to expose current and prospective minority male students to a variety of career fields and opportunities through mentorship, achievement, leadership, empowerment

Texas A&M University-Commerce and Dallas College are set to co-host the 2021 MALES Summit: Men at Work, which will take place in a virtual format on April 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The summit for current and prospective students is designed to provide mentoring and support for minority males while developing them personally and professionally as future college graduates. The summit will help students discover pathways to success in school, their careers and life.

The virtual summit is free and open to the public. Special guest, Dr. Marc Lamont Hill—host of BET News and professor of media studies and solutions at Temple University—will provide the keynote address beginning at 9 a.m.

Jayson Douglas, associate director of Intercultural Engagement and Leadership at A&M-Commerce, emphasized the benefits of the MALES Summit.

"This is a remarkable opportunity to expose current and prospective male students aged 14-24 to a variety of career fields and opportunities through mentorship, achievement, leadership, empowerment and service,” Douglas said.

Breakout sessions will feature a variety of topics including foundations of leadership, framing your success and detours of life–overcoming life’s obstacles. The summit will end with a resource fair connecting current and prospective students with a virtual opportunity to meet local employers, hosted by Dallas College Career Services. Participants can also connect with A&M-Commerce recruiters.

Scheduled A&M-Commerce presenters include Jack Duffie, graduate enrollment specialist, and Dr. Fred Fuentes, executive director for the Office of Latino Engagement and Outreach.

Though the summit is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., interested participants are encouraged to attend as their personal schedule permits.

Registration is required to attend. The first 200 registrants will receive a gift bag. Registration closes on April 9.
