Texas Music Month

Notably Texan logo

The Governor of Texas recently declared October as "Texas Music Month."

Gov. Rick Perry released this proclamation: "I encourage all Texans to recognize the many contributions of the music industry and those who create great music in our state. I, Rick Perry, Governor of Texas, do hereby proclaim October 2011 to be Texas Music Month in Texas, and urge the appropriate recognition whereof."

Did you know, the Texas Governor's Office has a long-standing tradition of supporting local music? A large portion of their website is dedicated to the music of our state, with information on everything from Texas Radio Programs, to the pioneers of Texas music. "Enjoy Texas Music" license plates are even available, for the die-hard fan. (http://www.governor.state.tx.us/music/)

Texas Music Month is something I can certainly get behind at the Notably Texan desk, but how can we limit the celebration to just one month? The music of Texas is brought front and center nightly during my program, as I strive to display the vast and varied nature of the music created here, and you have an open invitation to the party!

Allow me to make it official: "I, Matt Meinke, host of Notably Texan, will hereby exhibit the music of Texas in an eclectic, hand picked format during Notably Texan. I implore music fans to tune in 88.9-FM at 6pm, and hear music from all around the great state of Texas!"

-Matt Meinke

Born in Dallas, Texas, Matt moved to the Sulphur Springs area in 1990 and settled in Commerce shortly thereafter. Having dreamed of working in radio since childhood, he began working at KETR while taking Radio-Television courses at Texas A&M University-Commerce in 1993. Matt has transitioned from a part-time worker and pupil of KETR, to the station’s Chief Announcer/Producer and supervisor of student broadcasters. A familiar voice of 88-9 KETR, Matt has hosted such shows as The Late Nite Lion, and can currently be heard as host of Notably Texan.
