When it comes to the rate of educational attainment by 25-34 year olds, the State of Texas is on par with the country of Slovenia. Essentially, less than 32% of Texas' young people have obtained a college degree or other post-secondary credential. Right now, the country of South Korea leads the world in this metric, where 64% of the country's young adults are in that number.
Last month, these metrics were the primary topic of discussion at the conference of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. Hundreds of educational leaders in Texas, including Dr. Dan Jones, president of Texas A&M University-Commerce, came away with a set of goals that the Board believes will keep Texas among the most competitive states in the nation, and help keep the United States among the most competitive in the world.
When it comes to the educational attainment of 25-34 year olds, Texas must reach the 60% mark by the year 2030, according to information presented to Jones, in order for the state's populace to be minimally prepared for the jobs that will exist then.
