Austin's Kevin "Shinyribs" Russell, Former singer of The Gourds, regularly entertains crowds with his live show antics which often include leading a conga line through the crowd, or performing "Shinyribified" versions of Blackstreet's "No Diggity" or TLC's "Waterfalls."

After picking up the guitar at the age of 14, Russell has barely looked back. He formed his first band, Picket Line Coyotes, whose indie/punk rock infused sounds were heard often in their new home of Dallas' Deep Ellum in the late '80s.
Later, he helped formed the well known Austin mainstays The Gourds, who performed regionally for some 19 years before going on indefinite hiatus - which opened the door for Russell to put all his efforts into the solo "Shinyribs" act.
The newest release, "Okra Candy," shows off new territory for the Texas music veteran, featuring his new Tijuana Trainwreck Horn Section, and sounds that range from Ska to Americana to funk. Shinyribs was heard in his debut interview with Notably Texan. leading up to his Friday performance at The Rustic in Dallas.
Details about the artist are available on his website.
Notably Texan airs weekdays from Noon - 3 pm on KETR.
