Young girl drowns Sunday in Commerce

COMMERCE – The Commerce Police Department is reporting that a 9-year-old girl has drowned at the City Swimming Pool. The incident occurred Sunday morning at approximately 7:45 a.m. while the pool was closed.

Upon arrival on scene, a girl later identified as Diamond Bronston was found at the bottom of the pool in water 13 feet deep. Commerce Firefighter Jeremy Littlefield pulled her out of the pool and CPR was immediately performed. Bronston was then transported by ambulance to Hunt Regional Medical Center in Greenville where she was pronounced dead.

According to Public Information Office Marty Cunningham, authorities with were initially notified of the situation after a mother called concerned her daughter had snuck out of their home and was swimming in the pool. City officials believe Bronston entered the pool by climbing the fence.

The Commerce Swimming Pool will be closed for Sunday and re-open Tuesday, July 12 with regular swimming hours.
