Hate crime suspects formally charged

San Diego Gay and Lesbian News (www.sdgln.com)

PARIS - The Lamar County Grand Jury has indicted three men believed to have committed a hate crime against a gay man late last month.

James Mitchell Laster, Daniel Shawn Martin and Mickey Joe Smith are charged with aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury, enhanced to reflect a hate crime.

The three men are accused of the alleged assault of 25-year-old Burke Burnett at an October 30 party in Reno.

Burnett reportedly needed 30 stitches to close stab wounds to his back and forearm, as well as a cut above his left eye. He also sustained second-degree burns and severe bruises.
