House fire displaces county official, family

MINEOLA - The home of a Wood County Commissioner was destroyed by fire Tuesday morning.

Neither Precinct 2 Commissioner Jerry Gaskill nor any of his family was injured.

Firefighters from Quitman, Alba, Lindale and Hainesville assisted the Mineola department in extinguishing the blaze.

KETK-TV reports the fire happened just before noon off of CR 2336 in Mineola. Investigators are working to determine the cause. The commissioner thinks it may have been electrical.

The Gaskills had adopted five children and also had three foster children living with them in the eight-bedroom house.
