Roadwork coming for Rains County

The Texas Department of Transportation has entered into an agreement with a Clarksville contractor to resurface a section of U.S. Highway 69 in Rains County.

The $365,000 project awarded to Sammy Gist Enterprises will place seven inches of non-reinforced concrete on top of the existing asphalt pavement where the roadway intersects State Highway 19 in Emory.

The project will be divided into four phases and is expected to take no longer than 30 days. Crews will begin work on April 2.

The project’s four phases account for each of the four quadrants of this intersection.

In Phase 1 the Northwest quadrant will be constructed and Southbound SH 19 traffic will be temporarily detoured down FM 2795/Quitman Street to US 69 then back to SH 19.  Northbound SH 19 will not be detoured in Phase 1.  In Phase 2 the Northeast quadrant will be constructed and Northbound SH 19 traffic will be temporarily detoured down US 69 to FM 2795/Quitman Street then back to SH 19.  In this phase Southbound SH 19 traffic will not be detoured.  No detours are anticipated for Phases 3 and 4 when the Southwest and Southeast quadrants are constructed.

In all 4 phases of construction US 69 will be reduced down to one lane in each direction through the SH 19 intersection.  Some delays should be expected and drivers are urged to exercise caution in the work zone and obey all signs and flaggers.
