Hunt County man appealing sexual assault conviction

An appeal is being considered in connection with aggravated assault convictions from Hunt County.

A state appeals court was scheduled today to consider the case of a Quinlan man who received two life sentences after having been found guilty of aggravated sexual assault of a disabled person.

The 6th District Court of Appeals in Texarkana intends to hear the appeal of Larry Wayne Ashley. Ashley was convicted in December 2009 by a jury in the 196th District Court, who deliberated approximately 15 minutes before returning guilty verdicts on both counts.

In addition to the life prison sentences, the maximum punishments on the charges, the jury also assessed the maximum fine of $10,000 in each case. Ashley will have to spend a minimum of 30 years in prison before he will be eligible to be considered for a parole.
