FBI investigates Winnsboro PD for allegedly planting evidence

www.fbi.gov

The district attorney's office in Wood county isn't prosecuting any cases stemming from WPD investigations.

According to KLTV-TV, the Winnsboro police department was involved in a federal civil suit three years ago related to accusations of planting evidence in order to charge for possession.

The current criminal case came to light two weeks ago when city manager Nina Browning was notified by the FBI, who requested phone records and information related to specific police cases.

Winnsboro police chief J.L. Miller had been planning to retire three weeks prior to the start of this investigation, but has indicated to the city that he'll stay on the force to see it through.

The two officers being investigated are still on active duty.
