Let the Burn Bans Begin

MCKINNEY - With the persistent heat and increasingly dry conditions, Northeast Texas may be in for another round of burn bans.

Not uncommon this time of year, county commissioners enforce the rule to minimize the risk of wildfires.

Just recently, Collin County ordered an outdoor burn ban for unincorporated areas of the county, after county officials stated they had fought 28 grass fires in the past two weeks. The ban is in effect for the next 90 days, or until the commissioners or the Texas Forest Service rescinds the ban.

Kaufman County is also under a burn ban.

As of Wednesday morning, 112 Texas counties were under the restriction. At its worst point last year, 251 of the state's 254 counties were placed under a burn ban, a record.
