Commerce Police Investigate Alleged Sexual Assault

COMMERCE - The possible crime may have involved a date rape drug, according to authorities. Now, University Police at A&M-Commerce are warning students and community members how to avoid becoming a victim.

In an email Thursday, they advise you walk with others, especially at night, and stay in well lit areas. They’re also asking you to always keep your eye on every beverage, and if you lose sight of your drink do not consume it any more.

"If you start to feel strange or unusually intoxicated, seek help from a friend. A stranger who offers to take you home from the event could have slipped you a drug," the statement read.

The University Police Department is asking you to contact them if you notice any suspicious behavior at 903-886-5868.
