Drowning Reported on Sulphur Springs Pond

SULPHUR SPRINGS - 60-year-old Rick Palmer has been identified as the man located in the pond near Hopkins County Road 4752.

The Sulphur Springs man was found Monday just after 10 a.m. A nearby resident is said to have contacted authorities about seeing a possible body in the pond.

The Sulphur Springs News-Telegram reports that investigators say it appears to be an accidental drowning, and do not suspect foul play, but have sent Palmer’s body to the medical examiner for an autopsy. The procedure is standard in undetermined deaths.

The drowning comes a day after that of a 16-year-old on Holly Lake in Wood County. Authorities have released the name of the victim as Austin Gaffney of Rowlett, as KETK reports.

Gaffney was said to be swimming with his 22-year-old sister when he did not resurface. He and his sister were in the area visiting their grandmother.
