Sentence Handed Down in 2010 Child Injury Case

A local man who admitted to seriously injuring a child two years ago has now been sentenced to prison.25-year-old Matthew Mark Martinez of Greenville pleaded guilty to an indictment of injury to a child causing serious bodily injury.

Martinez was sentenced to 20 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice -Institutional Division during a hearing Monday.

On July 8, 2010 Martinez allegedly injured a male victim under 14 years of age by “shaking, slapping, punching, kicking, blunt force injury and/or hitting with an object unknown to the grand jury”. The charge is a first degree felony, and Martinez was facing a maximum sentence upon conviction of from five to 99 years to life in prison and an optional fine of up to $10,000.
