Committee contemplates former Assisted Living Property

A joint committee for the Delta County Assisted Living, Inc. property recently met at the Cooper ISD central office to discuss recent developments.

A recap of the recent actions by the entities was provided. The County and the City had initially accepted the sealed bid offer of $16,000 for the just over two and half acres located on East Dallas Ave. by the sole bidder Del Elemjjarmi of Plano, Texas at the recommendation of Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, LLP tax collector attorney John Bolster.

The Taxes due at Judgment date for all three tracts were $50,053.36 with an adjudged value of $187,120.00 combined total value in Cooper.

Following Monday’s Commissioners Court meeting Judge Brookshire has began procedures to sell the property at the Sheriff’s sale on the Courthouse steps in August.

CISD continued to reiterate their wishes that the property be purchased by someone who will use it for the betterment of the community.  President Darden also informed the committee the property was actually deeded to the County as sole authority rather than writing the deed in the name of all three entities.

Cooper Mayor Scotty Stegall reassured the City would continue to be responsible for the landscaping needs of the property until a proper buyer or other decision could be reached and agreed the City would also like to see the property back on the tax roll in a beneficial state to the community.
