A fire consumed a home last Friday night in Pecan Gap, and now the community is reaching out.

George and Terry Haneke lost their home on First Street in Pecan Gap last Friday night in a fire. According to Klondike Fire Chief Jerry Wood, George - who is also a Pecan Gap Volunteer Fire Fighter - and his wife returned home after a trip to Roxton to find their home totally engulfed in flames.

Reports note the 5-alarm call was received at approximately 8 p.m. At this time, the cause is still unknown.

A fund raiser benefit luncheon for the couple will be held Sunday, Sept. 8, noon, at the Pecan Gap Community Center. The public is invited to join and make with donations to support them. All that is asked is to bring a covered dish that will compliment BBQ Brisket or bring some chicken or ham.  Vegetables, salads and sweets will be needed.
