Winter Weather Advisory issued for region

With the threat of winter weather moving back into the region, the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for most of North Texas. The advisory is in effect from 6 a.m. Sunday morning and will last through 9 p.m. Sunday night.

A Winter Weather Advisory means that road conditions could become hazardous to drive on, so extra precaution is required when traveling.

An Arctic cold front is expected to blow through the region during the afternoon hours on Sunday, dropping our temperatures below freezing. Any rain that falls after the temperature is below freezing will start to freeze on any surfaces. The graphic below shows how much ice is expected to accumulate in your area.

Areas to the north will receive the most ice accumulation, and will experience hazardous travel conditions.

The main impact will be icy bridges and overpasses, but some roadways could become slippery as well. Any residual moisture that is left overnight will freeze, potentially causing a problem for Monday morning.
