Marvin Nichols hearings Apr. 29 in Mt. Pleasant, Apr. 30 in Arlington

TWDB

The Texas Water Development Board has announced the two public hearings during which the agency will receive public comment on the proposed Marvin Nichols Reservoir.

A hearing will be held at 2 p.m. Tue., April 29 in Mount Pleasant at the Mount Pleasant Civic Center, 1800 North Jefferson St. Another hearing will be held at 2 p.m. Wed., April 30 in Arlington at the Bob Duncan Center, 2800 S. Center St. At both hearings, oral and written comments will be accepted.

The Texas Water Development Board has also extended the open public comment period on the issue. The agency will be receiving ongoing public comment on the proposed Marvin Nichols reservoir through 5 p.m., Fri. May 2. Comments can be sent by mail to Office of General Counsel, Attn: Connie Sanders, 1700 North Congress Avenue, Austin, Texas 78701. Comments can also be sent by email to RegionCandD@twdb.texas.gov. Mailed or emailed public comments will be considered equally to those received at the public hearings, an agency release said.

The Texas Water Development Board had been tasked with resolving a dispute about the reservoir between two of the state agency's 16 regional planning groups. The Region D group, which includes Northeast Texas, opposes the project. The Region C group, which includes the greater Dallas-Fort Worth area, favors the plan.

Those who support the Marvin Nichols Reservoir cite the increasing need for municipal water sources for the Dallas area. Opponents of the project cite environmental damage, economic hardship and the loss of land through eminent domain.
