A Collin County man has been charged in connection with Wednesday’s chase between Greenville and McKinney, which resulted in one person being shot.
Michael D. May, 38, of McKinney remained in custody in the Hunt County Detention Center Thursday, in lieu of a total of $100,000 bond.
May was charged with one count each of evading arrest/detention with a motor vehicle and one count of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, involving the chase which began in Greenville Wednesday afternoon.
The female passenger in the 2012 Nissan May was driving, was shot once the chase ended in McKinney and was also taken into custody, according to Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks.
“The warrants outstanding for her are out of Collin County so she will not be coming back to Hunt County,” Meeks said, adding the female suspect’s identity had not been released as of Thursday afternoon. “I do know that one of the warrants for her arrest was endangering a child.”
According to information from the Greenville Police Department, officers were notified of a possible wanted person in the 3800 block of Lee Street Wednesday afternoon. The individual was reported to be May’s passenger in the Nissan.
When the officers attempted to stop the car, May refused to yield and continued navigating through portions of northern Greenville eventually turning north onto U.S. Highway 69.
Greenville Independent School District locked down schools in the North Greenville area during a portion of the pursuit, during which the two occupants of the vehicle appeared to be throwing items from the car.
The pursuit continued on Highway 69 through Hunt and into Fannin County, finally reaching State Highway 121, turning south and proceeding into Collin County and finally into McKinney where May turned onto U.S. Highway 380/West University Drive.
Spikes were deployed, partially disabling the vehicle, although May continued along Highway US 380, finally pulling into a parking lot and stopping.
May was said to have refused to exit the vehicle and had to be removed by officers on the scene. During this time, a shot was fired by an unknown source, striking the 26 year-old female passenger in the leg.
The incident is under investigation by the Texas Rangers.
