NE Texas water official trusts public process

Northeast Texas Municipal Water District

The fate of the Marvin Nichols Reservoir proposal - at least insofar as it figures into the Texas Water Development Board's plans - now lies in the hands of that agency's three-person governing body, consisting of chairman Carlos Rubinstein, Bech Bruun and Kathleen Jackson.

Opponents of last year's allocation of $2 billion from the state's Economic Stabilization Fund to be used to finance water projects have expressed skepticism about the board, which was appointed by Gov. Rick Perry's office.

Northeast Texas Municipal Water District administrator Walt Sears said that he's confident that the Texas Water Development Board's decisions will reflect the needs and desires of the public.

Mark Haslett served as KETR's News Director from February 2013 to June 2025. During his tenure the station's news operation enjoyed an increase in listener engagement and audience metrics, as well recognition in the Texas AP Broadcasters awards and a National Edward R. Murrow award.
