It again looks like there will be a water park in Greenville next summer.
Officials with Splash Kingdom have announced construction on the company’s Greenville facility is expected to resume this week.
Construction of the infrastructure, road and utilities, is scheduled to begin,” said Splash Kingdom President and CEO Johnny Blevins of the plan to restart operations at the site along the Interstate 30 service road.
Work had been underway for more than a month earlier this year — with an announced goal of opening the park this summer — although the initial landscaping is about all which has been completed by early April.
At that time, Blevins said in order for Splash Kingdom to build the waterpark and to add utilities, a new street connecting the service road to Roy Warren Parkway would need to be completed.
Blevins said building the road and installing utilities will be the focus of construction this month.
“We have been continuing our efforts in preparation to jump back into full waterpark construction mode in September, once the road is fully under way,” he added. “In the mean time, we have received our first shipment of slides and tower parts.”
Splash Kingdom is expected to be the anchor tenant for the Greenville Towne Center multi-purpose development.
When Splash Kingdom in Greenville does open, attractions at the park are to include a wave pool, lazy river and several water slides.
The Greenville park will be the fourth Splash Kingdom to open, alongside the parks in Canton and Hudson Oaks, and in Shreveport, La.
