Sheriff’s office investigating details in shooting death

An already violent summer in Hunt County has become even more tragic, with yet another shooting death reportedly having occurred in the county.

The Hunt and Collin county sheriff’s offices are involved in the investigation into the death of Oscar “Junior” Ovalle of Plano. Ovalle, 20, was reported to have been shot in the head Sunday morning at a residence near the Hunt/Collin county line, and died later at a hospital in McKinney.

Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks said the circumstances behind the shooting were still being ironed out as of Thursday night.

The Hunt County Sheriff’s Office received a call at approximately 10 a.m. Sunday for an agency assist on County Road 2730, about halfway between Greenville and Farmersville. The Collin County Sheriff’s Office had called to report a shooting had occurred earlier at a residence at the location.

After an initial investigation, it was determined that Ovalle had been shot in the head with a 9mm handgun and had been transferred to a McKinney hospital by a private vehicle.

“We were notified by an investigator with the Collin County Sheriff’s Office who had been called by the hospital in McKinney,” Meeks said. “We had never received any information from the persons at the residence where the shooting took place. The victim was placed on life support from the gunshot wound and later passed away. This shooting is still under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Division of the Hunt County Sheriff’s Office.”
