Blue and Red Santa equals success

The Delta County Sheriff’s Office and other Delta County law enforcement partnered together this year with all Delta County Fire Departments and EMS in an effort to gather Christmas toys for needy children in the area for a Blue and Red Santa.  Across the country law enforcement agencies are involved in toy drives for needy families and these events are generally named Blue Santa.

All toys gathered during the event will be turned over to the Child Protective Service Angel Tree program for Delta County.  Each year there are 100 plus children that are signed up by parents for this event in Delta County.  These children are from families that are financially struggling and that simply cannot provide much of a Christmas celebration for their families.  Our Blue and Red Santa event is designed to supplement the Christmas celebration for many of these families.

Blue and Red Santa  hosted a stew dinner  at the Civic Center in Cooper this past Saturday, Dec. 20. Price of admission was a toy or cash donation.  Delta County Law Enforcement, Firefighters and EMS provided entertainment through a series of competitive events including hot dog eating contest, arm wrestling, tug-o-war, sack race and balloon toss. It was a fun event for both the officers and volunteers and the audience! The volunteer fire fighters defeated the law enforcement by a score of 3-2, according to Delta County Sheriff Ricky Smith.
