Dr. Karri McCreary, co-owner of the Greenville Animal Hospital, says pets -- especially dogs -- need special attention in the summer heat

Young and old dogs, overweight dogs, and dogs with short snouts (bulldogs, Boston terriers) are especially prone to heat stroke.  It's best to avoid exercising dogs in weather warmer than 85 degrees, and sunburn can actually be a problem for many dogs.  Karri there are products such as cooling blankets and cooling beds for dogs.
