Backing the Blue Delivers

“Backing the Blue” organization gave back to local area law enforcement by adopting them and providing them with tactical bullet proof vests. Departments including: Delta County, Sulphur Springs Police Department, Hopkins County Sheriff’s department, Sulphur Springs ISD, Saltillo ISD, Como-Pickton ISD, Cumby Police, District Attorney, Game Warden, Texas Ranger, Cattle Ranger and K9.

Active shooter vests are tactical-looking vests with heavy plates to stop AR-15 and higher caliber rifles as compared to regular bullet proof vests with soft panels. They can be placed over the regular vests or replace them.

Brandi Leber, wife of Sulphur Springs Police Department Lieutenant Pat Leber, was credited with the success of the “Adopt-a-Cop” fundraiser. Kris Cobb is the Vice President of the Hopkins County branch of Adopt-a-Cop.

The organization managed to raise $35,625 for the vests in just 80 hours. On Sunday afternoon, Nov. 13 they gathered with hundreds of law enforcement, family, friends and neighbors on Celebration Plaza downtown Sulphur Springs. They provided supper and a special performance by Tyler Lenius Band followed the individual presentation of each of the nearly 30-pound tactical vests to the Sheriffs, deputies, game wardens and police.
