Marion Olivarez died at the hospital in Greenville after collapsing during non-contact football practice drills at Rains High School.

Marion Olivarez, a freshman at Rains High School in Emory, died on Monday after losing consciousness during football practice that morning, according to a release from the school district. Olivarez “collapsed while participating in non-contact activities at football practice,” the release said. Olivarez was taken by CareFlight to Hunt Regional Medical Center in Greenville, where he died later, the release said.

“The loss of any student wounds us all deeply,” Rains Independent School District Superintendent John Rouse said. “We know that the community joins Rains ISD in conveying our deepest sorrow and sincere condolences to the Olivarez family and friends. Counselors will be on hand at the high school in the coming days for anyone who wishes to talk with someone about this tragic loss.”
