Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has named Texas A&M University chancellor John Sharp to lead post-Harvey rebuilding efforts in the state.
Sharp will lead the Governor's Commission to Rebuild Texas, which is charged with rebuilding the state's infrastructure.
Sharp was a long-serving Democrat in both the Texas House and Senate. He also served as railroad commissioner and the comptroller of public accounts. A decade ago, then-Gov. Rick Perry appointed Sharp to head the Texas Tax Reform Commission. He became chancellor at A&M in 2011 and is expected to leave the post to head the Commission to Rebuild Texas.
