Texas Homebuyers Becoming More Diverse

A new report on Texas homebuying trends shows the rates of African-American and Asian-American buyers are going up. The report was released Wednesday by the Texas Association of Realtors.

It finds that the shares of black and Asian buyers in Texas have gone up by 3 percent since a year ago. That makes the percentage of black and Asian buyers in Texas 7 and 8, respectively.

Kaki Lybbert is the chair of the Texas Association of Realtors. She says this trend is happening everywhere.

“It’s not just Texas, it’s all over the United States,” she says. “And it’s because more people in those diverse populations have the ability and knowledge of how important it is to own a home. Truly, owning a home is the way to accumulate wealth. It’s one of the best there is.”

Libbert says Asian buyers are especially increasing around the medical areas of Texas’ largest cities.
